John Stowell is a world renowned guitarist and educator with a career spanning 40 years. This guitar is his signature model, handmade in Germany by the Hofner instrument company between 2003 and 2010. Only 150 of this model were made and only 50 of those in this violin varnish (shellac) finish.
Quality and simplicity are the words that spring to mind. It's has a solid center block, much like a 335, to control feedback. This later era model has floating humbucker (Hofner 514 - made by Kent Armstrong) with single volume and tone knobs. All ebony hardware includes the pickguard, tailpiece, control knobs, and tuner buttons. An excellent original hardcase, complete with hygrometer, and original tags are included.
It plays wonderfully with a fast, long scale neck and full bodied sound. It's currently strung with 13s but will happily work with lower gauges. This guitar is ideal for those wanting a warm jazz tone capable of handling loud volumes, while also being versatile enough for other genres.
Regarding the condition, it has been lightly gigged and unfortunately there are a couple of small marks in the shellac finish which are visible in the photos, thus the "Very Good" condition in the description as opposed to "Mint".
Originally purchased from Soitin Laine in Finland, it has had one owner until now. Shipping costs to be negotiated as part of the sale. Please enquire if you would like a quote or have any other questions.
