1968 Marshall Super Tremolo 100 Plexi head and (2) 4x12 cabs owned by Barry Goudreau ~ Formerly of Boston!

Boston is one of the most successful rock bands of all time.  They have sold over 75 million albums worldwide. Their debut album "Boston" is one of the best selling debut albums ever with over 17 million units sold to date. Their music is in regular rotation on radio and streaming services around the world to this day.  Almost 50 years after Boston's first songs were recorded to say Boston's music is "classic" is an understatement.

Barry Goudreau worked with Tom Scholz and Brad Delp as early as 1969 on an initial set of demo tapes, where he performed the rhythm and lead guitar work. Then, now famously, Tom Sholtz reworked those recordings and added new songs which ultimately landed Boston it's record deal.  Barry spent the majority of the 70's touring and recording with Boston and was an integral part of both Boston's live performances and it's sound with his flamboyant and skilled guitar playing, highly underrated vocals, and his high energy stage presence.

Barry relates the history of this amplifier on a visit to his home in early December 2017.....

"In 1970 i purchased this full Marshall stack from Wurlitzer Music in Boston and took it from the store directly to Tom's home studio in the basement of his apartment in Watertown, MA.  That is where it stayed until we took it out on tour in the late 70's.  This amp was used on recordings I was aware of and for sure many i was not. You have certainly heard this amp on records and on stage."

After the success of Boston's first record, with their second record "Don't look back" being released and the tour about to start, Tom and Barry went to Marshall thinking they would love to endorse the band.  Well they told them they didn't do endorsements and basically turned them down.  That was really an interesting time in retrospect because it led them to remove the Marshall logo on this head and remove the "100" logo's that were on the cabs.  That's how they remain today as you can see in this listing.  It also put Tom the "inventor" on a path that ultimately led to his design of many guitar products with his company Sholtz Research and Development. One of the first pieces of guitar gear Tom designed was a custom power attenuator that he built to use specifically with this amplifier.  Again Barry relates the story to me....

"The day I bought this amp and took it over Tom's we pugged it in. We had it on 2 and we were not impressed to say the least. So we turn it up to 4.  Sounds better but it's getting loud.  Then up to 11.  Sounded unreal but it was killing us it was so loud.  So that's what led Tom to build these power attenuators".....  Most of you will remember the highly successful Sholtz Power Soak from the 80's.  Well that all started with this amplifier!

The 2 4x12 cabinets are marked "stage right".  Both of these cabinets were actually used by Tom Sholtz on the "Don't look back" tour.  You can see them behind Tom in the video from the Giants Stadium show that is on this listing!  Barry ended up taking this head on tour after this and used it on his side of the stage. The head is marked "stage left".

This historic Marshall is in full original working order as Barry has his amps serviced regularly. The two 4x12 cabs are loaded with the original Celestion Greenback speakers. Just plug in your SG or Les Paul, crank it up, and you will get the classic tones of one of the biggest rock bands of all time with one of the main amps that fueled Boston's sound.

This item will include a letter from Barry Goudreau confirming it's authenticity.  The amp and cabs will be professionally packed and shipped fully insured by Boston Guitar.
