This listing is for a Galaxy Mara "Duhb Brass Top". The Duhb is in reference to the ergonomic shape that resembles a "W". The main benefits of the shape is it is comfortable to play both while sitting and standing. It has very good strap balance. I try to keep my designs fresh and not to copy anything. I feel this instrument accomplishes this well. The headstock design is also unique. The bass is light weight with a variety of tones.
I always considered this a short scale but at 32" its what they call Medium scale. Its just right for my hands and has more bottom than a short 30" bass. I love medium scale basses. I had designed a series of guitars called the Duhb ( for their W shape) and decided the profile would back a balanced bass. Making it medium scale brought the headstock in closer and improved the strap balance. Medium scale is easier to play for smaller hands. If you're going to make a bass you can't go wrong using Bartolini, so I did. They sound amazing. The knob on the top left bout is a blend, combining either/or both pickups. The knob on the right top bout controls the neck pickup with the added feature of a push/pull pot for series/parallel. The knob near the bridge pickup is its volume while the master tone is below that. The bass body has a brass sheet top. I've let it oxidize but you could also bright polish it. It does add to the overall tone. As opposed to a neck held in with wood screws this bass features 1/4" bolts that thread into inserts. Once you tighten them its a much more solid joint than a conventional screw job. The fretboard has been heavily distressed, looking like its been played for years and years. It adds to the feel too. The neck is beefy and has a natural wood feel and finish. The balance is great both standing and sitting.
The bass is unique and suited for someone wanting to create their own look and style.
